A Message to the Tea Party
ShareMAR 17, 2010
First, let me say thank you to the citizens that have stepped up all across America.
Americans have come together in this country in a way that I find remarkable. Some are starting or joining local groups. Others are speaking out over the airwaves via talk radio. Some are building new media outlets online. Some, like myself, are deciding to run for office.
It is self-evident that this is truly a grassroots effort. It doesn’t matter how it is being spun. In order for the movement to continue to grow, our next step is vital.
The political class, the media, and the two major political parties are taking notice and attempting to turn this into something it is not. The major media are attempting to paint you with a broad brush. The major party leaders are telling you which party you should support. Others say that forming a new “Tea Party” political party is the way to go.
I challenge you to be the forum that puts principle before party. Do not endorse any political party. Continue to be non-partisan. Preserve the local grassroots movement that cannot be corrupted or co-opted.
Allowing the movement to be centralized behind one party is not the way. Devotion to party over principle is the cause of many of our problems.
I urge you to continue to fight for liberty. I urge you to promote ideas that we can all agree on. Be that forum that will listen to ALL candidates regardless of party affiliation. We must rid this country of a ruling political class once and for all. If you can stand strong, we can regain our Republic.
If your group believes that getting aligning with one party is the way to go, then make it known now. Do not claim non-partisan on one hand, then tell your members to vote the party line. I trust that when you first formed the group this was the goal. It should continue to be your goal.
We must all defend and uphold of the supreme law of the land: The United States Constitution. That is more important that any political party will ever be.
