Florida's First Libertarian Senatorial Candidate

Education

Education, like health, is near the top of the priority list for every family and individual. There is little else more important to parents of a school-aged child. The government has stepped in to try and alleviate the shortcomings in this regard, but their efforts have been scarcely effective.

From subsidies, which drive up the cost of education, to onerous regulations, which decrease the overall quality of education, we have seen how a federal government with no constitutional authority to do so, has taken the decisions regarding education away from parents, and placed them in the hands of bureaucrats.

As a U.S. Senator, I will move to abolish the inefficient Department of Education and other unconstitutional federal measures regarding education, and vote against any further legislation that will take the power away from families’ right to choose the education that best suits them. This is the first step at the federal level to improving the quality of education on a nationwide scale.

In addition, while the U.S. Constitution doesn’t grant me the authority to create education legislation specifically, I would encourage a free market approach to education with something similar to vouchers as an interim solution. The issue of education is best handled at the state and local levels and has shown to increase the quality of education.
